The village is located on the North shore of Geneva Lake. It is known for its prestigious schools, beautiful lakefront homes, and variety of recreational activities. The population of Williams Bay is 2,927 and it encompasses 2.78 square miles. It is the smallest of the four lakefront communities but is a popular tourist destination, nevertheless.
 
The village is home to the Yerkes Observatory, which is was originally operated by the University of Chicago and where famous scientists including Edwin Hubble and Albert Einstein came to study. It has the largest refracting telescope in the world.
 
Williams Bay is the winter home to the Lake Geneva cruise line and the Santa Cruise, which can be compared the Polar Express on water. It is also the training ground for the Infamous Mailboat Jumpers. The Bay is where you will also find the George Williams College, Gage Marina, Pier 290, and much more.
